El periodista narró a Fundamedios que el hecho ocurrió sobre las 19:30, cuando salía de una heladería junto a sus dos hijos. "Vi que un hombre corpulento en estado de ebriedad se acercó, me insultó y, sin motivo, me lanzó un puñetazo en mi maxilar izquierdo".
Hasta ese momento, Alcívar desconocía que el agresor era el primo del alcalde de La Concordia, Walter Ocampo, pero mientras este lo agredía, decía que lo "iba a matar si seguía hablando mal de su primo".
Minutos después, el comunicador recordó que el agresor quiso empujarlo contra el pavimento, pero, la intervención de los lugareños impidió que lo sigan golpeando. Los sujetos huyeron en una camioneta conducida por Lara.
Enseguida, Alcívar denunció el hecho en la Comisaría de Policía, en donde se emitió un parte y un informe médico que, a decir del periodista, es sesgado, porque no consta que el agresor estaba en estado etílico. "Los policías dudaron un poco cuando supieron que se trataba del primo del Alcalde... lo detuvieron mientras conducía y, a pesar de su estado etílico, lo liberaron", dijo
Alcívar aseguró que "está viviendo una pesadilla por el abuso de poder de la familia Ocampo". El periodista cree que la agresión pudo darse porque ese día se celebró el aniversario de cantonización de La Concordia y Alcívar estuvo allí cubriendo el evento y entrevistando a la gente que criticaba la ausencia del Alcalde. "Quizás eso enfadó a su primo", comentó Alcívar.
Esta no es la primera agresión que sufre el periodista, el pasado 30 de septiembre fue agredido físicamente por Miguel Ángel Moreta, procurador síndico del Municipio de La Concordia y por su acompañante Consuelo Landeta, mientras realizaba una cobertura.
Adicionalmente, sobre el comunicador pesa una acusación por agresión terrorista a funcionarios públicos, presentada por Ocampo y otra por la misma causa basada en declaraciones de dos empleados municipales, razón por la cual el Juez Cuarto de Garantías Penales de Quinindé, Kléber Samaniego, dispuso orden de prisión preventiva, que después de casi un mes, fue sustituida por una medida cautelar de presentarse cada 15 días a firmar ante el juzgado.
JOURNALIST ACCUSED OF TERRORISM ATTACKED A SECOD TIME
On Friday 26 November 2010, a correspondent for the newspaper Diario La Hora and radio station El Nuevo Sol journalist Juan Alcívar, was allegedly attacked, insulted and threatened by Ronald Lara Heras, the mayor of La Concordia's cousin, and other three men, in this town located 318 kilometers from Quito.
The journalist told Fundamedios that the event took place at 19:30 approximately, as he was leaving an ice-cream parlor with his two children. "I saw a heavy set man who was apparently drunk approach me. He insulted me without motive and punched me on the left side of my jaw".
Alcívar did not know then that the attacker was related to the mayor of La Concordia, Walter Ocampo, until he heard Lara say that he would "kill the journalist if he continued to speak ill of his cousin".
The communicator remembered that a few minutes later the attacker attempted to push him onto the floor, but two locals intervened and stopped the attack. The attackers then fled in a van driven by Lara.
Alcívar filed a formal complaint at the local Police Station, where a report of the incident and a medical report were issued. The journalist believes the first report is biased because it does not state that the attacker was drunk. "The policemen hesitated when they realized it was the mayor's cousin...they stopped him while he was driving but let him go even though he was drunk", he said.
Alcívar declared that he is "living a nightmare because of the Ocampo family's abuse of their power". The journalist believes the attack may have been caused by his interviews of people who were complaining about the mayor's absence during the celebration of La Concordia's anniversary that day. "Maybe that annoyed his cousin", he commented.
This is not the first aggression suffered by the journalist. On Thursday 30 September he was physically attacked by Miguel Ángel Moreta, municipal trustee of the Municipality of La Concordia, and Consuelo Landeta, who was with Moreta, while the journalist was covering events.
In addition to this, Alcívar has been accused by Ocampo of committing a terrorist attack against public officials and two municipal employees have also accused him of the same act. Quinindé's Fourth Criminal Magistrate Judge, Kléber Samaniego, issued a preventative prison sentence against the journalist based on these accusations, which was substituted after nearly a month by an order to appear before the court every fifteen days.
